The History you’ve made, the History yet to be made. Because no one can resist, your willingness to win!

The European nights are once again set to take it’s grace at Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid are set to face Ukranian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the Group A encounter of Europe’s elite competition. The 10 time winners look set to reclaim what was theirs last season as ‘The Road to Undecima begins’.

Real Madrid look in red hot form heading into this game, piling 11 goals in 2 games with masterclass showings from James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo in the two respective games, not to forget Gareth Bale’s contributions as well. Now James out for a month, coach Rafa Benitez isn’t a worried man at all. According to him the club is filled with such talents to cope up with James’ loss, his absence won’t be felt. We hope the same too Rafa.

Shakhtar on the other hand also head into this game heavily pumped up, off a 5-0 drubbing of Metalist Kharkiv. All eyes will be on Brazillian starlets Taison and Alex Teixiera, where the latter has already notched up 9 goals this year. The club has been a tricky opposition in the past for many top clubs and now provides a stern test for Real Madrid. In what is their eleventh time to compete in the Champions League, Shakhtar will be looking to improve on their all-time best run in the tournament, when they reached the quarter-finals in 2011. The Donetsk side have never met Real Madrid in a European competition, although the Whites have faced Ukrainian opposition on 12 occasions. The last time was in 2006 against Dynamo Kiev.

But Real’s eyes may be on those two, but the whole world will be watching Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar ended his two game ‘goal-drought’ in thumping fashion, scoring 5 goals and an assist in Real’s emphatic win over Espanyol on Saturday. In the process he became Real Madrid’s all time top scorer in La Liga, surpassing club greats like Raul and the ‘eternal’ Alfredo Di Stefano. He is just 6 goals shy of becoming Real Madrid’s all time top scorer in all competitons, huge achievement considering he’s been playing on the wings all these years and became a Madridista only 6 years back. Let’s hope he breaks those records in no time and cement his legacy as ‘The best player ever who have donned the whites’.

Real hasn’t conceded a single goal in the three games played so far. So with Ronaldo, goalkeeper Keylor Navas is also in very good form. He is the first keeper after Miguel Angel in 1975-76 season to have kept a clean sheet in 3 opening games of the new season. Rare achievement this. But the hardwork in training shown by fellow keepers Kiko Casilla and Ruben Yanez will give second thoughts to Benitez on who will be standing between the goalposts come Shakhtar game.
Real Madrid are heading into this clash without the services of James Rodriguez and Danilo, who are out for a month. Denis Cheryshev is called up. Shakhtar meanwhile have a full squad.

So as the road to Undecima begins tonight. Real will look to give its all on the quest to European Supremacy. We look to hit the ground running by giving all our support and hope the champions return home with the Champions League.
